Who is this course aimed at?

This half-day course is aimed at anyone who would like to be able to produce basic Spreadsheet documents. Applicants should have some experience of using computers or have completed “Basic IT Skills” training.

How long does the course last?

This is a half-day course, lasting 3 hours.

How will I benefit from this course?

At the end of this course you will have a good working knowledge of Excel basics. You will feel more confident using Excel 2010 and be able to create a Spreadsheet from scratch. Understanding and using some of the built in calculation and formula functionality will allow you to be more productive in your work and home Excel environments. Spreadsheets that you create will be easier to use and look more presentable. You will also receive a Certificate of Attendance in recognition of the new skills you have acquired.

What will the course cover?

  • Understand Excel Interface
  • Understand basic spreadsheet terminology
  • Create a basic spreadsheet and Input data
  • Widen columns
  • Enter formulas using Autosum
  • Copy cells & format the data
  • Change page orientation & apply headers and footers
  • Show gridlines
  • Save, preview & print your first spreadsheet
  • Produce a simple graph

Excel Intermediate

Who is this course aimed at?

This full-day course is aimed at anyone who would like to be able to produce Spreadsheet documents. Applicants should have some experience of using Excel or completed “Excel – Introduction” training.

How long does the course last?

This is a full-day’s course, lasting 5 hours.

How will I benefit from this course?

By the end of the session, all participants should be able to produce a Spreadsheet document. The skills you will learn will help you to be able to create, edit and format large or multiple spreadsheets. Delegates will also be able to perform calculations and functions within a workbook, manipulate data lists and create custom charts which will enable the user to maintain and present data in a professional environment. You will also receive a Certificate of Attendance in recognition of the new skills you have acquired.

  • Amending column widths
  • Wrapping cell contents & Naming cells
  • Use functions: SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT/COUNTA/COUNTIF, MIN & MAX
  • Use the IF & SQRT Functions
  • Use relative and absolute cell references
  • Working with multiple workbooks and worksheets
  • Freezing panes
  • Renaming worksheets
  • Copying and switching worksheets between workbooks
  • Linking, Sorting & Filtering Data
  • Creating an exploded pie chart

Excel Advanced

Who is this course aimed at?

This full-day course is aimed at all interested Birmingham City Council employees who would like to be able to produce complex Spreadsheet documents. Applicants should have some experience of using Excel 2010 or completed “Excel - Intermediate” training.

How long does the course last?

This is a full-day’s course, lasting 5 hours.

How will I benefit from this course?

At the end of this course you will have a complete understanding of the higher functions of Excel 2010. You will be able to perform the most advanced calculations and functions, manipulate data using pivot tables and ‘advanced’ analysis, record macros and integrate with other office applications. You will also receive a Certificate of Attendance in recognition of the new skills you have acquired.
